This is a documentary of "A Great Day In Hip Hop". A day in which over 200 Hip Hop GREATS assembled in Harlem to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Art Kane's famous photo of jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Count Basie, Thelonious Monk and Lester Young. It also honored the innovators of Hip Hop that have impacted popular culture as jazz did in its heyday. The Picture and documentary was taken on September 29, 1998. The original shot of the Jazz Legends was taken sometime in 1958. Its tht 50th year anniversary of the 1st shoot!
Artists came from near and far, representing the past, present and future of Hip Hop music. A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jermaine Dupri, Canibus, Fat Joe, Da Brat, Wyclef, Pras, Kool Herc, Grand Master Flash, Onyx, E-40, Mack 10, Crucial Conflict, Run-DMC, Slick Rick, Goodie MOB, Luke, Kool Moe Dee, Heather B, Paula Perry, members of Wu Tang Clan, Goodie Mob, Mos Def, Talib Kweli etc. were all present. Icons met icons who turned out to also be fans. It was a lot of people that really wasnt big yet that was there in the background just in shock of the legends. Notably Mos Def. He was one of the newcomers invited for this historic day.
Btw, make sure you watch all 3 parts.
This is the original historic picture of the Jazz Legends
I found this video on youtube a couple of days ago. I never seen no one post this when the track came out. Everyone was posting Just Blaze's version. It was uploaded in November 2006. This is AMAZING! This dude is a MONSTER on the drums!!! This was recorded in a westcoast studio and I think Just recorded on top of this. Crazy!!!
Just's complete explanation on how the track was made
He talkes about how he got into engineering, importance of a school audio education and the concept of using apllication. Check the credits producers. He makes the shit bang in your speakers!
Ok, every producer has probably seen this classic youtube producer video. All the up n coming producers almost shat in they pants when this originally came out. GEEKS! lol. But the video below is a spoof on the Kev Brown video which is HILARIOUS!
THATS WACK, THE VIDEO WAS REMOVED. I BET SOMEONE CONTACTED HIM ABOUT IT. HA
In memeory of the passing of the late GREAT Dilla, we are posting a collection of most of his unreleased beats (over 100) and some that were featured on Dillagence, The Shining, Jay Loves Japan etc.. These beats are the ones that were on the actual beat tape. You will not find another compilation like this anywhere on the net. I assure you. ha. This also features the UK interview where he speaks on getting cheated out of credit during his Ummah days, slum village, Detroit Hip Hop etc..
Pretty interesting interview with Havoc of Mobb Deep. Hes in the studio playin beats, freestylin, explaining his equipment, introducing you to one of his producers. For the Hip Hop producer purists out there, he's loading beats up on a MPC2000 and 3000 with zip disks. Hardware at its finest. Solid video.
